The Knox County
School District offers daily transportation services for students
throughout the school district. Bus drivers pick up children in the
mornings and take them home in the afternoons. Additional runs are
made for preschool students, students with disabilities, and
extracurricular and co curricular events. All drivers must qualify
for the Commercial Drivers License (CDL) and also have annual
physical and random drug tests. Upon being hired, drivers have motor
vehicle and criminal records checks and a TB skin test. Intense
state-mandated training is an ongoing process for all drivers. A
Board of Education adopted Transportation Manual delineates all
aspects of this major operation. The District's transportation
facility is located at Boone Heights, adjacent to Central Elementary
School. The
Transportation Department would like to remind parents and motorists
of the slogan, "Safety First - Schedule Second".
Whenever you see our buses stopped, pulling out, or coming to a
stop, please use caution - we haul precious cargo.
Inclement Weather
Transportation officials inspect area roads during periods of
inclement weather to ensure the safety of our students, student
motorists, and staff. Any decisions concerning school
closings or delays are relayed by the district's Public Relations
department to local media outlets. Parents/guardians
should not directly contact the bus garage to learn of school
cancellations.
