The Knox County
School District's Adult Education and Family Literacy Program
provides opportunities for residents of Knox County to empower
themselves in the areas of educational advancement, job
opportunities, community resources, economic development, and social
skills. The District operates a learning center that also provides
outreach services at several sites in the community, including the
elementary family resource centers.
The Knox County Adult Education & Family Literacy Center is located
on the Knox County Middle School Campus and is open Monday through
Thursday 8:00- 4:00 and night classes offered Tuesday and Thursday
5:30 - 8:00. All services are free of charge.
Services Provided by Adult
Education
GED (General Education Development)
- Provides instruction to adult
learners who are studying for their GED.
Adult Literacy -
Offers one-on-one instruction to improve lower-level reading skills.
Family Literacy -
Combines adult education, children's education, interactive
parent-child activities, and parenting.
ACT Preparation - Provides
instruction to those who are taking the ACT.
Postsecondary Education -
Assist learners to transition to institutions of higher
learning.
CDL (Commercial
Driver's License) - Assist those who are studying for the CDL
test in one-on-one sessions. Workbooks and videos are provided.
Workplace Essentials Skills Training-
Focuses on providing tailored curriculum or classes that
benefit the employer as well as the employee/prospective employee.
Job Readiness -
Teaches students job seeking skills, employment documents and
employment process.
Computer Classes - Provides
instruction in basic and introductory computer classes, including
typing/keyboarding.
English-as-a-Second Language -
Provides instruction to those who have limited English proficiency
needed to gain competence in the English language.
ASVAB (Armed
Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) - Provides instruction to
those taking the ASVAB test.
Basic Skills
Development - Helps the adult learner to
improve his/her reading, mathematics, and writing skills. |
